Fall 2017 Practice Information for Cross Country, a No-Cut Sport

Cross-country practice will begin on Monday, August 21.  Practices will usually run Monday–Friday from 3 to 5 p.m. For the first week, runners will meet at Lower Woodland park (by the dirt track) for practice.  Once school begins, runners will meet in the commons at HNA before departing for practice.

All participants are expected to commit to the practice schedule described above.  Though cross-country team is a no-cut sport and welcomes runners of all speeds, it has endurance requirements established for the training safety of theparticipants.   During the season, participants are expected to run daily (minimum of 2 miles at a time), and all competitions are between 2 to 3.1 miles in length.  For this reason, all participants must demonstrate the ability to run continuously for 2 miles on the first day of practice.  Participants do not have to be able to run this distance in any particular time, but they should be comfortable running 2 miles without stopping.  Potential participants are strongly encouraged to run throughout the summer and enter the sport with a moderate base mileage.  Consistent summer running decreases the likelihood of injury and prepares participants for the rigor of daily running.

After tryout week, those cut from other sports and are interested in cross-country should contact the head coach about joining. Visit the HNA Cross Country page on athletic.net for schedule and additional information. Questions can also be e-mailed to Head Coach Erin McCormick at emccormick@holynames-sea.org.
