HNA Basketball Mid-Season Update

Record (as of January 10)

Varsity: 8-5 (5-3 in Metro League)

JV: 4-2

Highlights

The HNA basketball program includes 16 athletes from the Class of 2022; these new students are working hard and learning quickly! Varsity saw a solid start in Metro play, including a big win over Bainbridge on Alumnae Homecoming night, hosted by the Holy Names Alumnae Board. On December 14, young Cougar fans attended Camper Night and cheered the team on to an exciting overtime win over Lakeside. During the holiday break, the Cougars hosted a touring NPIRE team from Australia and won, 44–33, before splitting a pair of away games after New Year’s: a loss to State runner-up Garfield and a non-conference win at Highline High School in Burien.

Standouts

With consistently strong performances, Nicole Johnson ’19, Hannah Martin ’20, and Bria Stokes ’20 lead the team in scoring. Julia Causbie ’21 jumped straight from the soccer field—where she played a pivotal role in the Cougars’ advance to the WIAA State final—to the hoops court, and was leading scorer in two of the first three basketball games.

Where to see them

Basketball action resumes this week with an away game for JVC at Roosevelt on January 7. Varsity and the JVC are both at home on Wednesday (January 9): JVC’s opponent is Seattle Prep, while Cougar varsity welcomes Eastside Catholic. All three squads play Blanchet at home on Friday (January 18). Complete schedule details, as well as results, on the Metro League page for HNA basketball.
