In keeping with its mission to serve young women of diverse backgrounds, HNA aims to create a community in which all students feel welcomed and encouraged to develop their interests and passions. Every year, Holy Names Academy hosts the Reception for BIPOC (Black, Indigenous, People of Color) Families, where BIPOC families join faculty, staff, administrators, and other BIPOC families to hear from BIPOC students about their experience at HNA; learn about HNA's DEIJ programming from Head of School Kim Dawson; meet HNA's DEI Coordinator, Indira Bahner; and enjoy food, laughter, and community connections.
Every year, HNA partners with several other independent schools in the Greater Seattle area to offer the Equity and Inclusion Virtual Speaker Series, designed to provide the schools' communities an opportunity to connect, learn, and engage in topics around equity, inclusion, and antiracist education and action. This year's Speaker Series includes four nationally-known speakers: Prisca Dorcas Mojica Rodríguez, Dr. Bernice A. King, Dr. Megan Asaka, and Ruha Benjamin.
HNA is a proud member of the Northwest Association of Independent Schools (NWAIS)/People of Color in Independent Schools (POCIS)/Diversity Equity Inclusion (DEI) Leaders in Catholic High Schools (Archdiocese of Seattle)/PNW DEI Practitioners Think Tank.
HNA's community members participate in joint community outreach work with the Parent Board, HNA young scholars, and partner nonprofit organizations centering racial justice work:
